I accidentally washed my remote control in the washing machine. I took it apart to soak it in rice but when I put it back together the key kept falling out because the latch was broken. I bought this just before I rented the 528i so I wouldn't be charged more than $400. I thought they would notice, but it was worth it. It should be noted that I could not change the metal part of the real key, since the original is not removable, although this one is. The logo doesn't fit perfectly in the key fob's cut-out, but the electronics fit easily. I handed in my BMW and they didn't say anything about it! I saved over $400!
