I suspect that in many reviews the cord lock is set incorrectly. I used 1/8" braided cotton cord. Easy to hold and release. Instructions: The lock is designed to create adjustable loops. Thread the cord with the loop through the wide end of the outer lock and out through the narrow side .THEN insert the ratchet wheel into the outer lock. You will find it easy to adjust the loop. However, if you are using a 1/8" cable, don't expect to thread the cable into the lock after installing the ratchet wheel The hole is too small and it is very difficult to remove the attachment wheel once it is in. I see it as a disposable plug.
