Does the job but can be improved

It works, but it's not perfect.1. You have to click on the cutter and see where it cuts the wood before hitting it with a hammer. Check if it is built correctly. You then have to hold it in that position and prevent it from jumping when you hit it with the hammer.2. It's pretty easy for the cutter to not line up perfectly with the slot. The bottom of the unit has two rounded tabs that need to be pressed against the sides of the milled hinge groove. These rounded petals do not guarantee that the device is in exactly the right position. I would have preferred bigger and flatter bottom leveling guides.3. There is no way to adjust the cutting depth. Make a test cut with moderate hammer force, then look at the result and tap it a second or third time. Every time you do this you risk the knife moving slightly and you may be able to cut out the slot borders you want. You can try to hold the cutter so it's in the slot before you hit it, but the return spring is pretty strong. I'm thinking of cutting a few coils off the spring and stretching them to reduce the overall tension on the spring.

Pros
  • PURPOSE: Typically used to create high precision right angles in applications such as milling hinge holes, square slots for picture frames and other woodworking projects where precise angles are required
Cons
  • Questionable purchase for seniors
