Originally I thought I'd buy something to protect the LCD surface from fingerprints. It's more than that. Somehow my LCD bumped into something, possibly the binoculars I wear around my neck when I'm off-road. I completely forgot my LCD had a protective film and noticed the chip and some kind of mesh when I got home. I was so frustrated that I damaged my new camera's LCD and then blew out the bulb and I remembered there was a PCTC protective film on my screen. I took it off - bingo! - Absolutely no damage to the LCD surface. The protective film withstood the impact, ripped, but fully protected the screen. The fact that I forgot it was on my LCD is a testament to how unobtrusive this protective film once was on the camera. My camera is the Sony RX10 IV.
