Replacing this resistor was key to fixing the fan control problem in my 2008 Ford Escape Hybrid. The problem was that you can use the blower resistor to control the interior heater/AC fan speed. Many people have had problems with resistors failing and their fans only running at high speeds. This is because a high setting uses no resistance and gives full power to the fan motor. In my case, the dual climate control option behaved slightly differently and the fans blew at high speeds regardless of the control setting. What you should pay attention to if you replace it yourself: The access area is quite narrow and doesn't leave much room for maneuver. I used a 1/4" drive ratchet with a 2" socket. I didn't downsize, but 8mm stuck in my head. I don't think I can get the rear screw out with a tool kit, so be aware that a deep socket will likely be needed. I don't think a 3 inch extension cord and a short outlet wouldn't just fit.
