Sturdy but the design of the buckle is such that the right side of the buckle protrudes a little because there is a pivot point on the left side of the buckle. It does NOT lie flat like a military style buckle. This means touching/scratching everything at waist level. You don't want to wear this when you're leaning against your car and polishing the roof for paint scratches (for example).
