Guaranteed to embarrass you reading this book in public

I bought this book for my wife for Christmas and then had to sit jealously while she giggled, giggled, snorted and yelled while she read this book. When she finished the book and gave it to me to read, I now knew what she was laughing at. Sedaris' antics with his dysfunctional Greek-American family are guaranteed to make you laugh. I made the mistake of reading this book on the train and sometimes it made me laugh. Chapters on "II," hitchhiking home from college with his paraplegic "wife," speaking Elizabethan English at the family dinner table, driving a Greyhound bus across the floor, etc. I liked Sedaris' catchy wit and dry humor in describing the people he meets even more so than his crazy antics. What also makes this book compelling is that Sedaris doesn't just make fun of people or make jokes on purpose for the sake of humor. In the middle of a chapter he said something thoughtful or made you realize that this guy is much deeper than a humor writer. It has brought welcome relief to the hours of hysterical laughter you will endure when you pick up this book. Highly recommended!
