I installed it on a new quad that didn't even come with the factory. that's another story. I couldn't wait to get it installed properly before I started breaking in the new quad, so I just tied it in a knot around the spark plug wire just in front of the plug and it worked like a champ. There is a small icon on the left side of the screen that blinks during operation, so you don't have to wait 6 minutes to see if it clicks more than 0.1 hours. The block is sealed and you don't even have to strip the wire at either end. I made a more permanent installation by wrapping it properly around the spark plug wire and routing the wire securely to a permanent spot under the seat where the block is now installed. It says "no wiring required" for clarification, but you need to wrap the wire around the spark plug wire and just put the other end through the hole at the bottom of the gauge, it comes out the top, bend the wire again and into the other hole on the upper parts, pull from below and you're done.
