DO NOT FOLLOW enclosed "cleaning" instructions! They recommend soaking the device in a 9:1 bleach solution for 24 hours. As a precaution I used a 10:1 solution, after 24 hours when I reached into the container to rinse the filter all the rubber parts had melted. In fact, they melted so much that the gum stuck to my fingers and it was even impossible to wash it off. It's a shame, because the filter has polished my aquarium water well. However, in my experience, it cannot be cleaned and reused like the manufacturer suggests.
