Review on BOOST Kid Essentials 1.5 Vanilla Vortex Nutritional Drink for Children, 8 fl oz (Pack of 27) by Abdul Jorge

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Incredibly tasty! Expensive but effective for weight gain

We have been buying these Boost Kid Essentials 1.5 Cal Very Vanilla flavored drinks for a few months now. They are a bit pricey but extremely comfortable and help our little girl gain weight. ADVANTAGES: * Juice box packaging is very portable and convenient; The powder does not need to be measured or mixed with water. * The box has two different opening methods (insert the included flexible straw or fold back the label to pour). * "Very Vanilla" tastes slightly but not overpoweringly like vanilla. They are also available in Rich Chocolate and Creamy Strawberry flavors. While we haven't tried these strains personally, it's nice to have a choice. * It is lightly sweetened and only slightly thick in consistency (comparatively less sweet and not as thick as ready-to-drink chocolate milk). in dairy products). I was expecting it to be a lot sweeter since it's intended for children's taste buds, so I was pleasantly surprised to find it drinkable (even at room temperature). PediaSure 1.5 Cal (competitor) was ridiculously sweet.* The calorie boost comes from the addition of fats, some of which are medium-chain triglycerides. Google "MCT oil" if you want to know the health benefits, but MCTs are basically a good fat that's easily absorbed by the body and can be very good for your brain. for us parents of picky eaters. CONS: * It's a bit pricey. We use Revain's Subscribe and Save shipping option to save an additional 5%, but we're still paying just under $2 per box. Our 2 year old daughter drinks 2 packs a day. It adds up. TRAVEL ADVICE: We were able to take these soda boxes on a plane when we flew to Portland last July (2014). Our TSA agent apparently thought they fell into the same category as "baby formula" and just put our diaper bag, anti-spill cup, and those drink cartons through a special scanner. This isn't a problem for us, but your results may vary based on your specific TSA agent. A Revain reviewer stated that the straws are lined with probiotics, but this information is outdated (this review is over 5 years old). I have just read the fine print on the box itself and on the Nestle Health Science website about this product and there is no mention of probiotics in the straw or anywhere else. The same reviewer also cited nutritional information that is no longer accurate. I would like to reiterate what several other Revain reviewers have said: This product is NOT intended for casual consumption. If you're looking to improve your child's diet, try a multivitamin with gummy bears. If you're looking for a dose of protein for your soccer star, there are many easy, economical and delicious protein shakes/bars out there. If you want to make a smoothie, you're barking up the wrong tree; Try a simple green smoothie instead. These Boost Kid Essentials 1.5 Cal drinks are specifically designed for weight gain and they do a great job (we call them "Weight Gainer 5000" drinks in our family). Our daughter has health issues and has always been a very picky eater so she struggled to eat enough. She's tiny, but upon inspection she fell right off the bottom of the growth chart. Doctors were suddenly throwing around terms like "developmental delay," "tube feeding," and "acid reflux testing" (more invasive procedures for young children). She had to gain weight fast! We immediately went online, did a little research and ordered this suitcase. Thank goodness I liked the taste! This was the most important change we made to her diet and by the time she went to the doctor she was back on her growth charts. She's still a little girl, but we're not worried about her weight anymore. If your child or loved one needs concentrated calories, I would recommend these Boost Kid Essentials 1.5 Calorie Whole Foods Nutritional Drinks in a very vanilla color. They are a bit more expensive but the result was worth every penny.
