Dangerously Strong Odor

UPDATE: I've had success with these collars the first few times I've ordered them, but the last one, which I ordered on April 21st, caused both me and my cats to have respiratory problems. The first night Riley wore it I woke up to hear him coughing/gagging (to be honest it was a very strange sound that I had never heard before). I have noticed that I have had trouble breathing since opening the package but have put it down to spring allergies. no I opened the package 2 days before to air it out as the fake lavender scent was overwhelming even for me. Cats' sense of smell is much more sensitive than ours. If it was too strong for me, I knew it would be WAY too strong for him. I used to air the collar for 24 hours and the smell has dissipated to a more tolerable level. Not so much this time. I tried anyway because my roommate's cat is still hissing and hitting Riley, even a year later. I'm very disappointed that it didn't work out for us this time. I'll try a pheromone spray. crossed fingers 7 months ago we moved into a house with another rather hostile cat. My cat, Riley, who was already nervous around new people or new situations, eventually became aggressive and overly excited towards her. It doesn't help that she hisses at him. She doesn't appreciate his presence in a kingdom that used to be hers alone. Since I'm a renter and don't want Riley's behavior to cause my roommate to move us, I tried to solve this problem, first with behavior changes and then, after not working fast enough, with pheromones. I first used the Feliway plugin which made no difference. Then, after reporting this issue to a cat group, someone said she uses a "purple collar" to control her cat's behavior. So I contacted Revain and ordered a few different pheromone collars. After a few weeks of wearing the zen collar, Riley noticeably calmed down. He stopped hitting and biting another cat on the neck to prepare to settle down (he is neutered). However, it still doesn't give her enough space. He wants so badly to play and hang out with her, but that's just not going to happen, poor thing. I had surgery 2 weeks ago and couldn't put a new collar on him - and it showed! He went back to overstepping her limits, stalking her almost aggressively, cornering her and occasionally hitting her. Today after healing enough I put on a new collar. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that he'll be a zen kitty again soon. (Tip: The lavender scent is strong when the packaging is first opened. I left it outside, out of Riley's reach, for a day or two before putting it on. The scent softens and is very pleasant. Too after wearing your cat - hold it loose with two fingers, make sure the end of the collar is tucked into the loop before trimming the excess.
