Paint colors are translucent and too similar

The colors were my main issue - some numbers like 21 and 17 were so translucent that they didn't cover the numbers after 3 coats. There isn't enough contrast between the colors, so a lot of detail is lost. A lot of work went into making sure the end product was that simple. I liked the process itself, but I didn't like the end result.
