I like to give away small toys other than candy for Halloween. In the past few years I have observed that many children turn to their parents and tell them about the toys they have been given. Nobody ever says they have another Milky Way bar. Besides the usual gleeful smirks from small children at getting these animals in addition to candy, I had another experience this year. A group of students came to the door. I expected these older kids to only want candy. So I asked if any of them had any food allergies. I figured I would just give them all the sweets unless someone had an allergy problem. A girl was allergic to peanuts and said she couldn't eat sweets. So I got out one of these toy animals for her. Suddenly ALL the kids in the group were screaming at the same time that they also had food allergies. So everyone got a little animal in addition to the sweets. We'll never outgrow little plastic animals.
