Love my new Ultra Pack

the wearer of the hydration vest. I have an old camelback backpack that I've been using for about 20 years and I sewed it through where the straps parted because I really liked that backpack. As I prepared for my first multi-stage 120-mile race, I knew the old package just wasn't going to fit. I have borrowed 3-4 vests from friends to try on and tried on about a dozen at REI and other stores that have been looking for them. I ended up betting on this guy because I haven't seen a single ultramarathoner wearing the Camelback brand. Well I'm sure I'm glad I did. I love it. It's just the right size for me, I'm happy with 99% of the features. The only thing that could have been a little better is the zippered chest iPhone pocket. I use an Otterbox and it's too big to fit in my bag. But that's okay because I really don't want my phone to be that close to my heart. I added a waist belt for my phone and I'm fine. The backpack itself feels like solid camelback construction (or better!), so I know it's going to last. It's pretty adjustable. I bought poles for this hike and have never used them. I ended up placing the poles in the area of the zipper that sticks out at the top because my poles were too long and I didn't trust the bungee-style tie-down straps. I'm sure they work, but I was more comfortable with sticks in my pockets. I like the outermost pocket that allows me to stack multiple layers in it when I take it off while running. The front pockets are enough for small snacks, lip balm etc. The reservoir is also in classic Camelback quality - made from one piece. I think and feel I got a lot because the other Ultra packs I tested were in the $120-$200 range and I just didn't want to spend it on a beginner pack if I wasn't. Sure I would use it after this race. This backpack seems like something I can use for more purposes than long distance running, so I'm very happy with my choice. I love the price I paid for the quality and experience. Well done Camelback.
