Review on 🚴 SHIMANO M375 Post Mount Brake Caliper Black 2016 - High Performance Brake Caliper for Enhanced Cycling Experience by Roel Lebron

Tough, affordable entry-level disc brake calipers

I've decided to upgrade my MTB and the brakes were one of the systems I thought deserved an upgrade. I originally had V-brakes, wanted to try disc brakes and figured a pair of SHIMANO M375 calipers would be a good choice to start with. M375 calipers come with mounting bolts (pre-locked), washers and pads. Installation was easy and straightforward. I installed 180mm Shimano XT SM-RT86 rotors front and rear. I used a Shimano SM-MA90 post adapter for the front fork and a Shimano SM-MA-R180 IS post adapter for the rear. With this setup, the M375 performs surprisingly well. After a few trial runs and adjustments, braking was strong even in the wet (unlike wet V-brakes). M375 calipers have 1 moving (outer) shoe and 1 fixed (inner) shoe when the lever is depressed. I've read and looked at some instructions that recommend putting a credit card or thin washer between the stationary pad and the rotor during installation. While this works, I've found that it's not necessary. When installing the calipers, I hand tightened the bolts to allow the calipers to move. I then squeezed the brake lever, which allowed the caliper to adjust on the mount and line up with the rotor. Then I tightened the caliper mounting bolts. This causes the stationary shoe to rub against the rotor. On the inside of the caliper, if you look at your wheel from the opposite side, you will see the fixed brake shoe adjustment screw. I unscrewed the shoe with the adjustment screw 1 click at a time until the wheel turned freely and without friction. This allows the pad to be adjusted forward when worn in the future. Just my 2 cents. If you are changing from V-Brake (rim) brakes, be sure to order/purchase new brake cables. Your brake lines are most likely too short to reach the new caliper location. If you're looking for an entry-level, inexpensive mechanical disc brake system, I can recommend Shimano M375 calipers as a great option. Thank you for taking the time to read my review. I hope you found them helpful.
