Nice updated antenna for my van

I recently got a WeBoost Drive-X RV booster system from a friend who no longer uses it. The external antenna in his kit was a bit damaged so I figured I could buy a better antenna since I got the system for free. This antenna worked great and picked up weak signals while I was sleeping somewhere in the woods. When a signal is present, this antenna combined with the WeBoost booster will help improve that signal. Sometimes quite significantly. This allows me to update my website, upload videos, etc. when the signal would be too weak for even minor purposes like checking email. I use WeBoost to signal my Verizon connected Jetpack MiFi 8800L, which in turn signals my phones, ROCU, laptop, Revain Echo Auto, etc. via WiFi. The Jetpack has 4 built-in antennas and can use multiple signals (MiMo) for faster speeds and a more reliable connection, assuming you already have a good signal, and easily offers better speeds without an external antenna. It also has two ports for an external antenna, for which I have already purchased a Netgear 6000450 MIMO antenna (https://amzn.to/3rwxGI2) that can use these ports. The external Netgear antenna has two internal antennas and can also help pick up weak signals, although it doesn't have the gain of the WeBoost system. It attaches to the inside of the window with suction cups and has directional movement. But with two antennas, Netgear can still take advantage of MiMo (multi-in, multiple-out) technology and outperform the WeBoost system in many scenarios. Depending on weather conditions, distance to the nearest tower and who knows what else, sometimes a WeBoost system with this antenna is the only way to get a good connection. Sometimes the Netgear antenna is better and sometimes much better than WeBoost. So every time I sleep in a new place I have to play this stupid game to see which external antenna system works best. And unfortunately, where I sleep, conditions inevitably change, and choosing the best antenna can change. So, I think I have the biggest reason I'm trying to get a signal, but I want one method to always work better than the other to make things easier. Because this marine antenna is installed on my roof rack of my VW Westfalia. , which has a pop-up roof, I needed an antenna mount that could adjust the angles to accommodate the change in roof angle and mount this marine antenna. I asked WeBoost about the importance of keeping this antenna upright and they actually confirmed that it works best in the upright position. I bought a Shakespeare 4190 ratchet rail (https://amzn.to/3ztqeQy) which was designed to mount to a boat rail but is also great for mounting to a roof rack rail. This allows me to change the angle when the roof goes up or lay it flat when going off-road to avoid damage from branches etc. You can also buy extensions to increase the height of the antenna. I have a Shakespeare 4700-1 1ft Heavy Duty Stainless Steel Extension Mast (https://amzn.to/3ePnKUT) which I believe will help. The higher the better, right? Overall I am very happy with this antenna. Anyway, it looks cool too and I'm often asked what it is.

Pros
  • High performance omnidirectional antenna
Cons
  • I will write back
