You need to play with them a bit before you put them in the lanterns. I only hung a dozen lanterns, but if I were doing a large installation it would be important to tinker with it beforehand. Initially we had to twist and unwrap several bulbs multiple times - we thought some of them were defective. After a few tries we got both working. They stayed lit throughout our dinner, but I'm not sure how long they will last if you're having a long celebration. Also, don't lose the transparent little case. This will help keep them away before hanging the lights. Overall they let the lights shine and offer a good display.
