Review on Everki Checkpoint Friendly Backpack EKP119 by Patricia Dworin

Handy bag but not perfect

I took this to carry around my expensive new laptop. I travel a lot, so a dedicated laptop compartment and checkpoint-friendly features were the things I was looking for in a new backpack. I've been using it heavily for a few months now and for the most part it's pretty good. GOOD - Very comfortable even when fully loaded. That was my biggest surprise. Of course, comfort can be expected at this price, but I'm still very satisfied with it. I wear this about five days a week for three or more hours each day. The straps and back have good padding, and the pullers at the top of the straps ensure the bag fits more snugly against your back. When using it with the chest strap, I found my back to be significantly less sore at the end of the day than without (yes, I tested that). I can fit about 2 (large) or 3 (medium) textbooks along with my 15" laptop, adapters, binders, pencil case, TI83, book stand, etc. The bottle holder on the side is perfect for vitamin water or plastic soda. Bottle. The orange color on the inside may seem awkward to some, but I actually think it goes well with the bag and makes it easy to find the right things even in the dark. The laptop compartment is well padded. My Y510p fits perfectly. The checkpoint function is definitely a nice feature. Looks really chic and I would wear it to work without hesitation, but . . .Poorly - . . . The front of the bag is said to have very light scratches by some other reviewers. It's a shame because the rest of the bag looks brand new even after intensive (but gentle) use. It's a damn shame. - The rain cover is missing. That's not to say the bag isn't rainproof - it kept my stuff dry on a couple of rainy days with no problem. However, I wouldn't mind paying a few extra dice to have one included. - No key clip, but that doesn't bother me. - The bottle holder cannot be operated with one hand. Again not a problem for me but maybe for some of you. - There are many small pockets in the main compartment that you can put things in, but you will find it difficult to use them all at the same time. The backpack does not expand enough to accommodate all of the pockets that are being stretched. It doesn't really matter to me, but for some curmudgeons who need to take their rooms with them, it might be a reason to skip this and go to the Lighthouse, Atlas, or Titan instead. It's clear to me that a lot of thought went into the bag and I appreciate that, but I wish they had used a different material for the front. Otherwise it's a great backpack and I'm glad I bought it. You just have to know what you're getting into before throwing money away, and if you can take the little hiccups, you'll be just as happy as I am.

Pros
  • Dedicated 16" laptop sleeve provides easy access to your device to get through TSA or security checks.
Cons
  • Definitely a bad product
