I almost didn't buy this based on reviews that suggested it had a short shelf life. I figured if it saves us from running the sink in the tub all the time, then maybe it's worth a try! My boy (almost 2 years old) loves to play in running water so I thought this would be the perfect toy. I bought it on September 7th and it is now December 13th and we just had to change the batteries (4 months!). For context - we use this toy everyone. Lonely. bath time. You will see a few things in the video I uploaded: 1) When you plug in the spout it squirts through the top! We just found out and my boyfriend loves it! 2) There is not much pressure on the spray part. That's because we changed the batteries shortly after - now they SPRAY from the top when you plug in the spout. Unlike some other reviewers, we were NOT cautious with this toy. It has been completely submerged in water several times and is still working with no problems. We are incredibly happy with this toy. It will be a great gift for the New Year or a one-year-old's birthday.
