I've never had gel nails, not even in a salon. I just watched a quick YouTube and found some expert tips on this. I painted my toes first as I suspect it will ruin my brittle nails. The light didn't seem harsh enough but after applying the top coat they look amazing. It dried super hard and super fast. My guess is that the polish that came with it was a bit old as it felt thick and sticky. But I've never seen gel polish before, so it might be ok. As others have said there are no color labels on the nail polish bottles so I removed the stickers from the color labels on the boxes and stuck them on the bottles. Short-sighted on their part. A little annoying, but no big deal. These bottles won't last long because they're tiny and contain very little polish. Overall VERY happy with the purchase. Exceeded my expectations.
