Combination of mostly good features and one unwanted feature

Rating Update May 2, 2021 I have upgraded this product from 3 to 4 stars. The reason is that I found out that there is a way (double click on the power button) to turn off the blinking lights. I don't think it was listed in the small instruction manual. For me this is of great importance. Of course there are times when I like flashing lights, but that can get boring quickly. Now that I know whether to turn them on or off at will, it really improves my use of the speaker. Initial review April 29, 2021 I have a soft spot for bluetooth speakers. I think it's the 8th in our house. I particularly like models in this price range. Not too expensive but the quality is pretty good. There are things that immediately strike me when considering this type of speaker. Sound quality and battery life are high on my list. In that case, this speaker sounds pretty good and the battery life is really good. Then I look for one thing that makes me give up the speaker, which is announcement noise or speech. Unfortunately, this speaker did not pass this test. One star for that. I don't know why those designing these speakers think they should speak voice prompts like "Bluetooth" at a volume that would wake the dead. This speaker failed this test. I want to turn off the voice. A simple soft signal is sufficient. I think I'm speaking on behalf of the majority here. This is another new category for me. (Corrected later. See my updated review above) This speaker has flashing lights around the speaker cones. It's good if you like that kind of stuff. If you have BBQ guests in the backyard, these flashing lights can be fun and desirable. But at other times they can be annoying. I read the instructions but couldn't find a way to change the random flashing lights. I tried different short and long button presses but nothing changed the light. I can't deduct a star for having the colors flash, but I can deduct for not having them turn off. Pros: - Decent sound, not the best but quite acceptable. Reasonable base for this size, probably too much mids. I think it will sound good outdoors. - Large volume. Can be quite loud without much distortion. Big battery means long runtime. I watch at least 4 hours but this one can last a lot longer. - Ability to charge other devices. - Good materials - Easy Bluetooth pairing - Rugged construction - IPX7 waterproof up to 3 feet for 30 minutes. Allows use in the hot tub. Built-in FM radio. Can be played from a microSD card. 3.5mm audio jack. Cons: Loud voice messages. (found out later that they can be turned off) - No battery level indicator, even when charging. If anyone figures out how to turn off the light please let us know. (it did) If loud voice prompts or constantly flashing lights don't bother you, then you might very well like this speaker. For our house, we will mark it as an outdoor speaker and not use it at home.
