Improvement over the previous model - BUT -

First of all I would like to say that I really like this radio, the new version is an improvement over the old model. I think the sound quality is excellent, the new filters are excellent and the SSB reception on the ham radio bands is excellent. The old model (909x) had low sensitivity when using a whip antenna for shortwave and amateur radio reception, while this new model is more sensitive when using a whip antenna, which is a big improvement. The radio should sound good, right? This one sounds good! The previous model had a somewhat "mushy sound" on AM and shortwave. Also, I LOVE the sensitivity of the air range and the sound quality of the plane. Perfect! Now some other observations. Firmware 070 may have some problems. I understand that a new version is coming out soon, but there are some observations that I and others have experienced. 1. My SSB frequency is 140Hz in the lower sideband.2. My SSB frequency is offset by 40 Hz in the upper sideband. This is important when attempting to receive amateur band signals. The audio will sound "different” even with a strong signal. 3. Several people have experienced strange behavior on AM and SSB when the radio is very close to the Wi-Fi router. As if the DSP chip in the radio is clogged and the sound suffers as a result. A sample of this audio can be heard on the Dave Radio page. You just have to google it. Despite everything, can I recommend it? Absolutely! I am very happy with the radio. The LCD screen and frequency numbers are a pleasure to look at. The build quality is very good for a portable device in my opinion. Finally, I am NOT an employee of Sangean and was NOT paid to write this review. UPDATE: I am having an issue with this radio's "Quick Setup" feature. . Page 9 in the manual. (Press and hold Enter while rotating the tuning knob.) This feature allows you to quickly tune the entire range in a matter of seconds. The problem was in the software, it stayed in that mode and I had to go into the menu and retune the radio. This did NOT happen all the time, so it's not an operator error. This happened often enough to return the radio. This is probably a firmware issue, Sangean needs to fix this issue.
