While cleaning I found an old Olympus digital camera that used Smart Media (SM) memory cards to store photos. In total I had three CM cards with old photos (20 years old) but there was no way to view the images or download them to my computer. I've searched the internet and the Revain website but could only find this reader and the Sagem CF adapter. Sagem didn't work with my iMac, but this one worked like a charm. Once I inserted the SM card, the external drive appeared on my desktop and I was able to view and download long-lost pictures. This reader is a bit more expensive than most, but compared to the price of a commercial data recovery service, it was worth it.
