So far the unit has successfully kept my basement humidity in the 47-48% range (according to my calibrated hygrometer) while the unit was set at 50%. That is good news. However, I see the Alorair humidity and temperature reading fluctuating by 4 degrees and 4-5% humidity from my hygrometer. The unit shut down at 47-48% humidity, so overall I'm happy. I just want the device's temperature and humidity readings to be more accurate. I chose this unit to replace a smaller Danby dryer which started to fail after less than a year. I wanted something reliable that would last longer than the 1-2 year max I've experienced with all the cheaper dehumidifiers. The Alorair LGR 85 Pint is a solid build and has so far seemed effective at controlling basement humidity, but I'm having some trouble getting it to work. First, it can only be set in 5% humidity increments, which is too imprecise for my needs. Ideally I would like to keep the humidity around 47-48%. My next options are 45% and 50%. The second problem is that it doesn't respond very quickly to low intake humidity. For example, with a setting of 50%, I've seen the intake humidity drop to the advertised 48% while still running and producing warm, dehumidified air, rather than shutting off when it drops below 50%. I really want the device to turn on only when the humidity in the room exceeds what I set. Wasting electricity and increasing wear and tear are not my goals. A few other notes: 1) The drain hose is larger than the cheaper units and much more flexible which is appreciated. 2) The user manual is a joke with minimal useful information other than error codes. My device has a Wi-Fi hotspot option that you can toggle on and off, but the manual doesn't mention that option. No additional information or advanced options are displayed when switching on or off. what to do with it 3) The device is quite heavy and does not have extra wheels, so you have to lift and carry it by hand. 4) Apparently there is no bucket, so you need a sump or other place to drain the condensate. . Luckily the pump height is very good, so if the hose is long enough; You can climb quite high vertically without any problems.
