Review on QSHAVE Adjustable Double Edge Safety Razor 700 - Premium Quality Razor with Stand, Leather Protective Sleeve, and 5pcs Titanium Coated Blades by Brooke Gill

Revainrating 5 out of 5

The best razor I've ever used.

I have shaved with a double-edged razor for many years. I started shaving with a hypodermic blade (anyone remember those?), I had a short run with an electric blade until my airfield sergeant accused me of not shaving (even though I have a thick dark beard), and switched to cartridge blades with two blades. . Trac II, Atra, etc. until razor manufacturers got greedy and started charging over $2 a cartridge. I have to say that I cut myself regularly to get a close shave, even with expensive multi-blade cartridges. I eventually switched to DE safety blades, shaved just as cleanly, and continued to put up with cuts. Given the choice between a notched shave on a three-dollar cartridge or a notched shave on a dime blade, I didn't have to make a huge decision. I tried one of the inexpensive Murkur grips that roll up but found it very aggressive and uncomfortable with a short grip. I've been using the butterfly latch handle for years. I've always wondered if an expensive adjustable grip could make a difference, but I didn't want to spend $80 on an adjustable Murkur hoping it would be significantly better, and Gillette went out of business decades ago. The Qshave 700 caught my eye for under $20 and lives up to the reviews. Smooth, comfortable and closed without notches. With my thick beard, I use setting 5, but most people would turn it down to something less aggressive. Since I've always had teeth before, it's always been difficult for me to tell when a blade has become dull. It was usually pretty bad (5 shaves or so) before it became obvious that the issues were with the blade, so I replaced the blade. With Qshave I've found that there really is a limit of 3 or maybe 4 shaves per blade. I think it was true all along, I just didn't realize it. My experience with cartridge systems has not improved despite the ridiculous claims of their advertising. Given that I could change a blade every day and still spend a fraction of what it would cost for 3, 4 or 5 blade cartridges, I have little to complain about. Now I stay true to the QSHAVE 700. I still use Atra-compatible blades (I prefer Persona for this) when traveling due to TSA carry-on requirements, but this Qshave is my favorite pen now.
