I wanted to install some pendant lights above the bar. For a while I used one of Worth Home Products' screw-in adapters, a downlight conversion kit with just a screw-in adapter that was pretty cool because it didn't require any wiring and installed like a lightbulb. But I wanted a custom pendant light that needed to be hardwired, so I decided to try this kit instead. I followed the suggestion here of drilling a pilot hole for the screws that go into the side of the can and I watched the instructional video that Westinghouse provides. It worked very well and I installed the light myself - never installed a light before. :D The reason I'm giving it 4 stars is because the included ceiling medallion (applied ring) is pretty awful. It's fine if it suits your style, but it's thick and bulky and looked terrible with my modern home and mid-century light fixture. You can see in many of the other reviews that it looks pretty chunky in a lot of the photos while it looks nice in some. It would be better if they offered something bigger and flatter/more neutral. I ended up making my own simple disc shaped lockets which you can see in my photos here.
