I try my best to make bananas last long enough. I buy them from Target, eat them for breakfast at work, and pick them up in the afternoon. These bananas typically only keep for 3 days before becoming too ripe. So I bought these inserts and did the following test: a) I put a set of bananas in the fridge on top of the insert and some of them; b) I did the same thing but the bananas were right at my table from the fridge. In any case, there was no difference in how the bananas ripened over time. It makes sense. Putting a fresh product on an insert does nothing botanically. Fresh produce is exposed to about the same amount of air. The same amount of various gases and natural chemicals are released as usual. And as a result, fresh food ripens and spoils at the same rate with and without the insert.
