It's a large rubber mat with sections - it stays in place
It stays in place in the car. I threw it over the center console where I left my phone and miscellaneous items. It stays where I put it. It's been a few months now, he's not moving, not slipping and generally doing what's expected of him: just sitting and holding things. :-) The partition has cut-outs to let the cables through. I just didn't find them that useful because of the layout of my machine's console. A small cut in the base allowed the cable to go where I needed it and everything went smoothly.
