After using the wire that was already included in the picture hanging kit, my mirror fell to the floor. The wire just broke in two. Luckily nothing broke when the mirror hit the carpet. Realizing how lucky I was that a large object had fallen off the wall, I decided to be a lot smarter on the second try. I matched the weight of the mirror with the type of wire. To ensure I don't have an accident in the future, I weighed my mirror (20 pounds) and bought a Super SoftStrand (#5) hanging wire, which is rated for pictures up to 43 pounds. Wire tying instructions are shown in the four illustrations on the front of the spool (80 feet). I still need a little extra help so I went to their website. The manufacturer recommends wrapping the wire in tight circles eight times (see Fig. 4). I am very happy with my purchase and I certainly feel more confident now that my mirror is hanging on the wall. The plastic-coated wire was easy to roll and cut to length with scissors. Since the spool is only 10cm in diameter, it's easy to store away for my next picture hanging project.
