Review on Grain-Free Northwest Naturals Freeze Dried Diet for Cats – Gluten-Free Pet Food, Cat Training Treats – 1-4 Oz. by Cynthia Beauchene

Raw is the way!

If you are considering a raw food diet for your cat or dog, please read on! For years we thought that Eagle Pack cat food was superior to anything on the supermarket shelves (in my opinion the Eagle Pack from the pet store is better than the items on the supermarket shelves including the advertised Blue Buffalo which we tried and immediately went back to the Eagle Pack), BUT Eagle Pack is not RAW and contains filler grains - starch. Most pet foods contain starchy ingredients that our holistic veterinarian has determined are unsuitable for your pet's diet. Think about it: what do street cats eat on their own? Brown rice? Potato? For example, last year we switched our cats to Raw Instinct dry food, only to find out later that its raw ingredients are sprayed onto 'kibbles'. So we're not sure what the actual raw content is. We've read that starch turns into sugar and certain diseases thrive on it. It was around this time that we suddenly lost our 12 year old cat to cancer. Her loss fueled our search for better nutrition. We started feeding Venus frozen raw food from the local grocery store. Not all pet food stores carry frozen raw dog food, and one only had raw dog food. Dog food just isn't designed for cat physiology - please don't even think about changing it. Anyway, Venus loves it! (A word of caution here. Please feed your cat new food slowly. Their tummies are sensitive and it's no fun cleaning the vomit off the carpet. We suddenly switched to frozen rabbit when the poultry ran out. Uh-huh .) BUT she also needed raw food that could be left standing and eaten at any time in order to be able to eat in peace. She liked Stella & Chewey Dry Bites, but when it came time to change the order, I read a comment about Stella now having a chemical preservative. Now Venus has had a tumor for several years, which has been removed twice, but it has again grown larger than ever. We want her to eat as pure as possible - her water is filtered just like ours. Thing is, our old Stella bag didn't have a chemical list, and when you click the ingredients list on the web, you're not sure the *picture* of the ingredients list hasn't changed. So we gave Northwest Naturals a try after I called the company with a few questions and got back to me right away. So we found the perfect combination of wet and dry food for them. Venus loves her raw, wet breakfasts and dinners with a sprinkling of shredded, dry cat greens (from our local herb store) and Northwest Naturals (she's tried the turkey flavor so far) for between-meal snacks. Since she was fed almost 100% raw most of the year, there was now and then some sardines or wild salmon. BUT MOST AMAZING, Venera is ten and a half years old and she's almost playing like a teenager again! She hits a mouse, carries it in her mouth and throws it in the air, talks to it, climbs and exercises on her scratching post. YOUR SHERS WILL MELT EVEN SOFTER AND BIGGER! She is more loving and tolerant when picked up than ever. She weighed 13 pounds and gradually lost weight without deprivation. Your changes are so beautiful! The only improvement Northwest Naturals has to offer, and there's a comment on that elsewhere, is that the food looks like pellet-shaped balls packed in a big zippered bag, so there's really no protection to put those to store pieces in it. from crumbling. Venus only eats them when whole, so crumbs can be mixed into her frozen food to avoid wastage. We'd give it a solid five stars if it was sold in a sealed box, so we'd deduct half a star if possible (psst. how about, Northwest? :) BTW, we've started using the herbal supplement's Brand Pet Therapy called "Survival" to reduce the swelling. It's only been two weeks, 1/4 teaspoon a day, but it hasn't grown and seems to have lost some of its effectiveness, but it's too early to say this tumor samples were inconclusive for cancer Based on our experience of having surgery on our other cat - and because Venus is just glowing with health - we decided not to go down that route just to say she loves animals Dr Veterinarian by the way, and we receive no compensation for including these comments in this post (unless you consider the satisfaction of being able to share a book that helps your pets :) We really are what we eat.
