Great all round camera -

Bought this camera for wildlife photography. Using my Canon SLR was more of a chore due to the extra weight I had to carry around for hours. Also, the 35x zoom was a key selling point for this camera. I would be on standby with my DSLR and long zoom and exhausted in a few hours. When you were tired, you became careless with your shots, and sometimes I was dissatisfied with my shots. The fact that I have been using Canon for many years piqued my interest. Well I couldn't be happier. It's light, easy to carry and with the new processor it takes pictures that are comparable to my DSLRs. With up to 35x zoom, you can take excellent handheld shots. I still have the SX30 and am comparing them, the SX40 seems faster, better in low light and has sharper images. Images of the moon come out sharp, with well-defined craters. The videos are very clear. This is not a technical review. This is a semi-professional review focused on usability. A printed manual isn't included, but your local print shop can do it for you using the included disc. The manual is very complete and comprehensive and the user must thoroughly understand all aspects of this camera in order to be able to take reasonably good pictures. Yes, it's easier to use the automatic features, but you can take great pictures with the special features. Since the purchase I have taken several thousand photos and in fact found that 10% are thrown away, usually due to my error. An excellent camera for amateurs and professionals. Just be prepared to learn how to use it to the fullest. Overall I'm very happy with my purchase and it feels like I take my DSLR out less. After using the camera for an additional month or two, the recall remains in effect. I finally started using the high speed scene mode and it works as advertised. Captures up to 10 photos per second. and almost everything is fine. With a long zoom you have to be careful to stay still for a second. even with activated IS. The camera focuses on the first shot and maintains that focus. Most of my high-speed shots have been panoramic shots. Objects approaching or moving away from the photographer did not try. i will soon It is very easy to quickly browse your SD card. So if you're going to be out for a while, make sure you have extra SD cards or buy a bigger one. 10 frames per second fills up the memory card quickly, especially with fine adjustments with a 12-megapixel camera.
