Cleaning this grinder before first use was easy enough although it does take a long time to dry. The top is removed to add peppercorns. Unfortunately, this is where the usefulness of this product ended for us. It's so inefficient and inefficient at grinding. You have to twist it back and forth in small twists many dozens of times to get enough pepper to flavor your food. We had a cheap plastic version in the supermarket before and were hoping it would be an upgrade, but unfortunately it takes so much work to get the pepper out that it's not worth the money. Bad luck, but the seller never got back to us after our initial review (stating that the funnel was not included, despite what was promised). It's suspicious that this review doesn't even appear on the product page (it was a 3 star review).
