The cable may be damaged, it makes a strange noise when connected

I was very happy when the charger arrived. I haven't played with my Gameboy in years. The reason I give it a low rating is that as soon as I connected it to my charger it made a strange noise and I had to unplug it. It's a pity because now I don't dare leave it charged as it could be a safety hazard.
