Review on Motormeters® Digital Back Light Meter Tachometer by Paul Ruberto

Works best in spares

Bought this for my garden tractor. I have a Honda GX630 installed on a '78 Powermax 9020. I wanted to make sure I didn't exceed the 3600 rpm hydraulic limit. I bought this tachometer, hour meter, I'm sure it's useful, but my tractor already has it and I honestly don't care much about the clock. The display always shows the time unless you remove the battery. Not a big deal, but be aware. If you check and the clock isn't showing, it's time for a new battery. The backlight is a nice feature that is easy to toggle on and off. I bought two of these. I "thought" I killed my first one after the tractor had to sit outside in bad weather for a couple of weeks. It doesn't have a hole in the bottom to drain condensation if you leave it out in the rain or get dew on it. It's bad news. The good news is that after it was completely filled with water I removed the battery and installed a new one and it worked. Yes, I drained the water and let it dry a bit. I thought it had failed, which is what I was expecting because when I put in a new battery it wouldn't turn on. I put this battery in a new device and it didn't catch fire either. The new battery in the package is empty. Pooh! I put a new battery in the old device, it works perfectly. So it's a sturdy little unit. Velcro is "ok". If you apply and leave it, it will work fine. If you need to remove or move the touch more than twice, you may need to reattach the Velcro. I plan on playing around with mine to see if I can cut the wire and add a connector to make a "head". The device is detachable so it doesn't have to sit out in the weather. It happens. Can I recommend this to someone else? Yes! It's easy to install. I used tape around the spark plug wire instead of the zip tie that came with it, but the zip tie should work as well.

Pros
  • Great price
Cons
  • Big and bulky
