Review on πŸ”§ Enhance Tire Performance with Phoenix USA AML1 Air Inflation Kit by Julius Hunter

Revainrating 2 out of 5

Update Review - rating changed from 4 stars to 2 stars - had problems with both outer tires leaking because the extender was too long.

:::UPDATE 10/21/2016 --- I promised to update the review if I had any problems with these valve extenders - and I have done so. I'm currently reducing my rating to two stars. I had a problem - as you will note, I pointed out below in my original review that these valve extenders were made for different tire sizes (16"-19") and for my 16" tires they were too long for the Outer tires were I installed a double and had to install it in an extension cord with a large "flex cable". Well, that extra length caused a problem on BOTH outer tires on the driver's side passenger side. First, from the driver's side, I noticed that the pressure on the outer tire wasn't holding. Additionally, it was an intermittent issue where it drained a little, then stopped, and then drained more. Well I replaced that valve with a Wheelmasters 135 degree valve extender and the problem was solved. So I figured I had a bad extension cord at that moment. Then the same thing happened on the passenger side. Again a quick 135 degree change fixed everything. I've been using the 135 degree extension for six weeks with no problems. I'm pretty sure the extra length was the root cause of the problem, and the resulting loop in the extension created stress on the part where it bolted onto the valve. bar on the tire and it slowly came loose. I am sure of this because if I remove the tire on either side and apply lateral pressure to the extension it will flow through the connection to the valve stem. It weakened itself due to the stress that the extra length of tubing put on the connection point. It's hard to put into words, but imagine the extension was a good 4 inches long, and then when you secure the end of the hose, the stiff extra length transfers uneven pressure to the valve stem connection point. This happened to both tires so it's not just a separate issue. And in both cases the 135 degree valve extension solved the problem and in both cases it's been working for 6 weeks straight now. Bought 2-3 years ago and after the 2nd valve stem for the inboard dual wheel failed within the last month I figured it was time for new ones for all four dual wheels. The first Wheelmaster extension that failed suddenly began deflating and not accepting new air - and soon after, the second failed extension was also not accepting new air. I'm a bit disappointed with how long the Wheel Masters lasted, less than 3 years for me for the $70+ I spent on them when I bought them, very poor. As they are the safety element of your van (the tires to me) I find it appalling that at this price point they fail so quickly that the manufacturers of these elements should put more emphasis on buyer safety. Note that the Wheel Master had less than 10,000 miles on it. (Okay, no ranting. ;-)) Of course, when these new Phoenix USA Air Mates arrived, I immediately compared them to the Wheel Masters. The difference in quality was clear, these Phoenix USA brands are just better built and much tougher than Wheel Craftsmen. You'll immediately notice where they attach to the valve stem, how much stronger the mechanism is, and how better it seals. The exterior stainless steel also appears to be of a higher quality than Wheel Masters, which actually showed signs of rust in a few places. Phoenix USA appears to be higher quality stainless steel. Note that I mounted them as part of the C-Winnebago class on 16" twin tires on a Ford E450 chassis. It's a bit long for 16" tires, but it works. You have to bend them a lot to fit, with the outer wheel being the most pronounced. Note that the mounting frames were already riveted to my rim thanks to the Wheel Master setup, so I didn't have to use the nut mounts that came with this package. But there is a fairly large loop in the outside hoop loop, it could have been made at least 2 inches shorter. My biggest gripe is that I wish they had a separate version for 16" tires, which are shorter. Making these for the 16-19 inch tire range basically means they fit 19 inch tires and are too big for 16 inches. for 16" tires. That's why I'm deducting a star - if their length was more ideal for a 16" tire this would be a five star product. So-so fit is worth one star to me. So far so good, me have had them for a few weeks with no leaks, have only done short rides on them and haven't gotten a big ride yet, if there are any performance gains or they show premature signs of failure I'll update this review.Seems to be better than the Wheel Masters, that I had before. Thanks for reading.
