Does what it says on the tin - updated steering control

Great little machine for the price, sounds a lot better than the factory stereo! I installed this on my 2006 Subaru Forester and it was quick and easy with the right wiring harness adapter. It loads fairly quickly, but takes almost as long to connect to Apple Car Play. Bluetooth works fine without Car Play enabled, haven't tried screen mirroring yet. I just installed it yesterday so these are definitely first impressions. Pros: Customizable splash screen and color of function keys. It seems that the radio stations are well picked up. Bright enough for day or night. Touchscreen volume buttons - oh I miss a simple button! There is no way to avoid automatically switching to Car Play unless you turn it off on your phone (iPhone 7). There aren't many options to tweak the sound, just bass, mids and treble and fancy decay/balance. I ordered steering wheel controls to get around the touchscreen volume and phone call volume issue as this unit can learn those controls with proper wiring to the aftermarket receiver (<$30). ) I will update this review after installing how it works. I don't have a lot of data on my phone, so I've turned off data usage for maps for now when I don't need them on the go. I'm not sure how much communication this thing and car play will have over 4G. I've since learned that HU itself doesn't use any data, but any apps you use on your phone will. It simply mirrors your phone in the Apple CarPlay UI. UPDATE 9/6/21 I've added steering wheel controls and they work great. IYING is instantly recognizable and works in tandem with lighting commands and controls. No more touchscreens at the HU!

Cons
  • I'll write back later
