Good radios for short-distance communication

Works well. I learned a long time ago to check for the presence of a programming cable before ordering a Chinese programmable radio. It is absolutely necessary for these radios. If you transmit on the factory-programmed frequencies, sooner or later you will be interfering with someone on the licensed frequency. You must program them with frequencies for which you have a license or permission to use. When the FCC comes knocking on your door, don't assume they're here to befriend you. Use CHIRP to program software and you're done. Just Google CHIRP and download. Once you've entered your desired frequencies into the CHIRP "table," actual programming only takes about two minutes. If you buy them as a set of long range radios you are making a mistake. They are reliable but have a limited range, largely dependent on the physics of radio wave propagation. A good rule of thumb is that if you see a person on a different radio, you have a strong connection. Now put some trees or buildings in the way and that might change. You just have to experiment. Works well between two cars driving together but don't lose sight of the other car. Can work in some buildings between offices. In a mall this can work if you keep in touch with "the one who obeys". YMMV. They're great for what they're designed for: reliable, short-distance communications at a low cost. If this is what you desire, this should be good for you. I bought two radios and they all worked as expected. All are programmed quickly and correctly. I'll use mine to talk to the kids while they're fishing across the lake.
