The idea is that if you need to turn on the light in the middle of the night, the orange light is unlikely to wake you up. So I have a double circuit for the overhead light in my office, so one light is normal and the other is orange. When I go into the office to get something done and turn on the light, I don't feel like I'm being attacked by a wake-up call. You should consider not using it outdoors. You are so close to red that someone might misunderstand what you are telling the world.
