I don't need to carry 2 different cables to use with Surface Pro - it's compact and fits in my laptop bag without it take a lot of space on the road. The images are sharp and clear so there are no quality issues with the cable. I have no problem with extending or mirroring the screen on my external monitor. I chose not to buy a docking station so this was the perfect alternative as it supports either HDMI or VGA. The sound works with the HDMI connection (as it should). In general, I've also used it on other computers with no problems, so I'd be surprised if anyone had problems with a device with a mini display port.
