I have these adapters to expand the capabilities of my 40mm gas mask. There are many everyday situations that require some form of respirator - painting, sanding, certain cleaning chemicals and irritants. A good NATO standard 40mm ABC/CBRN filter will certainly protect you from these things, but they cost between $40 and $100 a filter! These adapters allow you to use regular bayonet type filters/cartridges that you can buy at a hardware store for your mask and they usually only cost a few dollars depending on the application. This way you can save on expensive 40mm filters if you ever need them and use much cheaper and workable filters for everything else!
