Many of our car seats wear out over time. However, there are always many alternatives. You can reupholster your seats or, if you're on a budget, buy a cushion. This is the one I chose and on a quick tour of the neighborhood I'm sure it will be a worthy addition. The material is similar to memory foam, which is about an inch tall with some modifications. By some calculations it should ideally support around 200-250 lbs. The cushion raises the ride height a bit, but as you ride, the seat sags a bit and conforms to your butt. I bought two packs and am looking forward to road trips!
