For example with windows 7 you have like 4 GB for your operating system but 8 gb Ram which helps run multiple programs/softwares open simultaneously very easily (without any performance issues). Virtualization makes things seem faster than their physical counterparts because everything runs inside another program not directly attached to actual hardware components themselves-like cpu's etc.-which would take time longer processing instructions then doing them through an emulator instead.
