The product is less an intercom and more a portable radio. It transmits well and is really portable. My main complaint is that it shuts off after 90 minutes. Inactivity that requires both handsets to be powered on. So if you don't mind yelling upstairs for an hour and a half to turn the intercom back on, it will work. As for me, I bought a replacement and the kids now have walkie-talkies.
