50/50 chance, super soft vs. not much

I bought 2 of these a few months apart. The first one is EXCELLENT, I would give it 5 stars throughout. It's very soft, cool to the touch but somehow still warm, I LOVE it and decided to buy a second one to stop moving mine from bed to sofa. I'm disappointed with the 2. I noticed right away that it was a little rough, but I put that down to the need for washing. I threw away the packaging and washed it but it didn't get any softer at all 🙁 I'm really sad because I love the first one so much.
