I bought the metal first and I really liked it. I use it to store whole coffee. I then bought two of these ceramics because they looked really cool and I thought they would be a good buy after my experience with the first one. they are garbage. The outer lids are uneven and the wood on both is scratched. The plunger / inner cap does not create any tightness inside at all, when pressed or removed it does not stay. With metal, I have to keep the plunger/inner cap relatively horizontal to the plane of the top of the canister during insertion and removal and I hear a distinct whistle combined with resistance. I don't understand how this strain can be so bad compared to Metal. Metal cylinders are a good buy, these ceramic cylinders are expensive beautiful cylinders. I think you could store individually sealed items rather than coffee that you want to keep fresh.
