There are alternatives. 1" and 1.5" but actually spend more for the 2" width as it holds the mattresses together with more stability. When I had to put the 6-sided waterproof mattress cover on, this thing wouldn't budge. The only trick was to thread the end through the buckle, it should enter the middle of the bottom and exit at the front (right side in the product image).To do this, my brilliant wife used a safety pin and attached it to the top of the end the buckle. Strap and then thread it through the buckle. Travel destinations stink so follow this method. Also bought the cheapest foam roller to put across the gap on the mattresses which worked great. Don't buy expensive ones. Use that cheapest foam, sheet to go with it.
