I normally prefer metal screens for the weight and stiffness, but being plastic this one was heavier than expected and doesn't bend; even if you hold it with one hand. It also cleans well. Unlike some plastic cooking items I've used, when washed or even just rinsed, they don't leave a residue or film that makes me feel like I need to wash them again. odors or discoloration. The overall design is solid too, with the grips deep enough for your fingers to comfortably hold, but they're the same thickness so they always feel sturdy. And the little "leg" on the bottom means I can put it in the sink to pour big pots of pasta without it dangling to one side or the other. Seems to be a lot of plastic bowls and colanders. I was pleasantly surprised at how well this colander works and looks like it should last quite a while.
