Review on TYC 3892 Odyssey Replacement Condenser by Tim Toscano

Revainrating 5 out of 5

I saved almost $300 by substituting myself instead of a Honda dealer!

This condenser was purchased for my 2014 Honda Odyssey. We drove many kilometers and unfortunately the warranty expired when the original expired. The Honda dealer estimated the replacement cost (including labor) at $457.xx. The local garage offered me $325 with work. I spent a little more to have this shipped next day but still saved a lot of money. I'm more of a mechanic when it comes to installation, but I prefer to have a lot of new car repairs done by professionals. However, there are videos available on YouTube showing how to remove the original and install a new one. My car required removing the plastic trim (held in place by easy-to-remove plastic clips) and loosening the screws holding the hood latch. Each bolt was 10mm in diameter and was accessible with either an open-end wrench or a 3/8-inch ratchet with a pair of extensions and a swivel. No special tools are required. From there, three bolts are attached directly to the condenser, two of which are leads entering and exiting the condenser. These two lines slide out with minimal effort. Each line has O-rings that must be inspected for damage. Mine looked new so I decided to reuse them. The other screw is for the inline mount. In addition to those three screws, there are a couple of brackets on top of the condenser that hold it in place. Overall it took me about an hour to remove and reinstall the capacitor. To charge the capacitor. The system on vacuum I paid an additional $65. As for the quality of the capacitor itself, it weighs the same as the OEM and fits snugly. As for durability, that remains to be seen and I'll update that. If anything comes up but the original only lasted 62.xxx miles so long term durability is relative to 5. BTW this capacitor is black compared to the original bare aluminum and I find it looks better viewed from the front (bottom) is seen on the car. The most important detail during the 90 degree heat wave is that our family car's air conditioning is freezing again! Do yourself a favor, spend an hour and save a bunch of money!

Pros
  • The receiver/drier unit is offered as an integral part of the condenser unit where applicable
Cons
  • May cause injury
