These are awesome board shorts. I have never surfed.but as of today I can at least say I have tried. I went out today with a friend who attempted to teach me how to surf. We went out last week with body boards & I quickly learned that swim bottoms vs very rough waters - the water wins.so I searched for a pair of board shorts that would actually stay on before we went back out again. There's a hurricane off shore right now - so honestly the conditions were far from ideal to learn this (which is why I did not in fact surf much.I crouched on the board once.but that's about it) - but I did fight the waves like mad & paddle a whole bunch - and these shorts were amazing for that. I was super comfy the whole time & despite getting knocked off my feet quite a few times at no point did I feel like my shorts were about to get taken away too :)The sizing seems about right. i'm 5'7" 140lbs, the sz 8 works for me with a good bit of room to spare (if I drop anymore weight I have a feeling the sz 6 will be the better fit).
