Makes a terrible noise

We loved this fireplace and spent about an hour and a half hanging it on the wall. We finally put it on and I think it's broken because it makes a horrible grinding noise and has no heat. I don't think that tone is intentional. The sound of the heat output is also quite loud. Unfortunately I have to send it back.
